Die Bieraktivisten grabs 2023 Kuemmerling Balla Balla title
The annual Kuemmerling Balla Balla held at the Swakopmund Football Club (SFC) grounds on Saturday, was once again a huge success.
According to Andre Meng, a member fo the organising committee, this was the biggest Balla Balla with 24 teams competing in four groups on three fields and more than 200 spectators in attendance. "Everything went smoothly, which is thanks to the sheer amount of helpers we had and the great atmosphere created by all the participating teams. We started at 09:30 and the final took place around 17:40 and produced good quality fastball.
The final match of the day provided the spectators with a thriller. After full time, "Die 6 Apostel" and "Die Bieraktivisten" shared the same amounts of points. This resulted in another match going into extra time. After another two minutes of added time, the referee blew the whistle with "Die Bieraktivisten" winning by a single point and thus clinching the 2023 Kuemmerling Balla Balla Champions title. The third place playoff saw "ZeroMariva" narrowly losing against "Stiftung Wadentest" in a great match. The sought-after "Gees Cup" was awarded to "Die sieben Zwerge" who put on quite a show with their creative outfits and choreography before each game. Only teams with female players were considered for the trophy.
The group stages concluded shortly after 4 o'clock with the two best teams of each group advancing to the knockout stages. "Die 6 Apostel" won against "Stiftung Wadentest" on Field 1, and on Field 2 "Die Bieraktivisten" survived a thriller in extra time and winning with just a single point against "ZeroMariva" who struggled with an injury to their registered player, Marko Russmann in the semi finals.
Meng thanked African Marketing who continuously sponsor the event and SFC for providing the location and helping hands. "We thank everybody who was in attendance on Saturday and are looking forward to seeing you all at the next Kuemmerling Balla Balla. Remember SFC will be celebrating its 95th birthday on 20 April 2024."
