Cycling for a worthy cause
‘Lasting impact’
A team of four female cyclists will take on the Desert Dash of 397 km in support of the Ruach Elohim Foundation.
A four-member women's cycling team called All4TheBabies is gearing up for a strenuous 397 km journey across the world's oldest desert in aid of abandoned babies, as participants of the Nedbank Desert Dash 2023 - slated to take place from 8 to 9 December.
The All4TheBabies team, consisting of Loren Green, Rene Strauss, Beverly-Rae Henckert, and Michelle Wellman Steenkamp, is on a mission to not only cycle through the challenging desert terrain but also to raise funds and awareness for the Ruach Elohim Foundation.
A pledge system aims to galvanize the community, turning each cycling milestone into a meaningful donation that will significantly contribute to the efforts of the baby-saving foundation based in Swakopmund. "The All4TheBabies team members encourage support from friends, family, and the community, which can be done by pledging N$1.00 per km as we brave the challenging 397 km route through the desert. All contributions will go directly to the Ruach Elohim Foundation, furthering its vital mission,” Green explained.
Green added that the team is determined to take part in the Desert Dash to raise awareness for the foundation. “We are adamant about contributing to this worthy cause and aim to support the foundation as it conducts renovations to accommodate the increasing number of babies. The funds generated will play a crucial role in supporting the foundation as they expand the safe haven, ensuring every baby gets the opportunity to live and experience love."
The foundation, under the guidance of Ronel Peters, is in the process of upgrading its facilities to accommodate more infants in need of a loving home. The Ruach Elohim Foundation is a voluntary association with a primary focus on raising awareness about baby dumping and providing care for unwanted, abandoned, abused, and neglected babies in Namibia.
Peters, the founder of Ruach Elohim, expressed her profound joy for the effort. “It is easy to give money, but embarking on a mountain cycling challenge takes considerable effort which emphasizes the value of active participation in supporting our cause. We therefore urge the public to gear up and support this initiative to make a lasting impact on the lives of infants in need in the upcoming Nedbank Desert Dash.”
