Grand finale to hit up Khomasdal courts
The league champion will be determined this Saturday at the Khomasdal Netball Courts.
The MTC Namibian Netball Premier League 2023 concludes this weekend at the Khomasdal netball courts in Windhoek.
Twelve clubs will gather in the capital as the second leg of netball action concludes their scheduled fixtures.
Matches this season have been played in several regions, to give supporters a chance to see the top clubs’ players in action. The president of Netball Namibia, Rebekka /Goagoses, says the approach to take the game to the people have been a success and they want to do more of that.
Speaking of this weekend clashes, she reckons the race at the top between Namibia Correctional Services and Namibian Navy could boil down to goal difference.
“It will be tough as the bottom clubs will also be fighting for survival.
“This will be the last sponsorship of the league by corporate company MTC. We have been grateful. Our coaches have been exposed to more opportunities. Umpires have been improving and the players put on their best with the support of MTC,” said /Goagoses.
In regards to their efforts to take the league matches to different regions of the country, /Goagoses explained that it is unfortunate that the Khomas and Erongo Regions have adequate resources and that is why they were very focused on the drive in the beginning of the year to develop and assist regions in setting up governance structures so that when teams reach a certain level in the premier league, they can enjoy home matches.
In conclusion /Goagoses emphasized how they have been spoiled with excitement in the league and urged fans to turn up in numbers on Saturday to watch the matches.
As it stands, Namibia Correctional Services lead the log with 36 points and a goal difference of 424. They also have one more match at hand and will be in action twice on Saturday.
Navy is in second position with 36 points and a goal difference of 309. Mighty Gunners find themselves third on the log with 34 points, and a goal difference of 322.
At the bottom of the log are Northern Fly Ballers, Rebels and Fatou who found the going tough this season.
Saturday’s matches:
Namibia Correctional Services v Young Stars (08:00).
Northern Fly Ballers v Rebels (09:30).
Afrocat Lions v Mighty Gunners (11:00).
Eleven Arrows v Fatou NC (12:30).
Tigers v Young Stars (14:00).
