Skorpion’s Vedanta under top 10 global metal, mining companies
Vedanta Ltd, owner of Skorpion Zinc, is among the top 10 global metal and mining companies in the Asia Pacific by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2022, the news website India Shorts reports.
Vedanta was ranked 6th out of 216 companies globally in the assessment, formerly known as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
According to India Shorts, Vedanta has been at the forefront of sustainable practices and is leveraging new technologies to safeguard the environment and communities.
According to the latest annual review of the Chamber of Mines in Namibia, Skorpion Zinc spent N$2.82 million on corporate social responsibility in 2021.
Although the mine suffered a loss of N$102 million in its 2021 financial year, it invested N$5 million in exploration expenditure, paid N$61.6 million in salaries and wages and N$25.7 million in local procurement.
It fed the fiscus with N$1.5 million in royalties, N$1 million in export levies and paid N$30 000 in corporate tax.
The mine is currently under care and maintenance.
