Peda Care Investments is a home-care service agency in Windhoek, officially founded in July 2022 by Miriam Sichone.Growing up, Miriam - who hails from Tsumeb - was always a caring, compassionate and empathetic individual. It was her passion for helping those in need that drove her to study law in South Africa and found the “long-anticipated residential healthcare business".She said the significance of their care services lies in their holistic nature. The Peda Care team goes beyond mere medical care, focusing on the overall well-being of their clients, she said.They take into account not only their clients&#039; physical health, but also their emotional healing. Additionally, they extend this care to encompass the needs of their family members. “We render care with our hands and our hearts. It&#039;s not just a job for us, it is a lifestyle of care,” she said.She said her motivation was fuelled by her ever-nudging desire to help and the non-existence of residential healthcare programmes. According to Miriam, she in 2015 watched a BBC programme that featured home-care providers, including nurses and nurse aides, as they went about their door-to-door care rounds. At the time, her mother was battling cancer, and she couldn&#039;t help but wonder how much she could have benefitted from such residential healthcare services. Unfortunately, this kind of option wasn&#039;t available back then. The show made a lasting impression on her, though.Birth of a healthcare revolutionShe shared this discovery with a friend, who took the idea up and started a non-profit organisation with a similar focus. However, the desire to create a business that mirrored the compassionate and effective care she had witnessed on the BBC programme never left her thoughts.In December 2020, Miriam underwent a significant operation and experienced severe trauma. Upon returning home from the hospital, she found herself in a situation where no one truly comprehended the extent of her physical and emotional distress, let alone the specific care she required. This experience once again highlighted a pressing need for caregivers, but regrettably, none were accessible.This consequently fuelled her determination to make a difference and address the healthcare needs of individuals like herself. “I was resolute in my goal to establish a business that could provide people with precisely the care they needed at the most critical junctures of their healthcare journey,” Miriam said.Catering to various needsPeda Care is a multi-faceted entity with a wide range of services designed to meet diverse needs. Their staffing levels are flexible and tailored to the needs of their clients. They have a presence in several towns, including Windhoek, Okahandja, Gobabis, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Henties Bay.Their various branches range from Peda Care Services, Peda Care Cleaning and Peda Bambino Care. Miriam noted that the first offers palliative care for cancer patients, disability care and counselling services. The second, also known as Peda Clean4U, is the cleaning services offered to clients who require not just a caregiver, but house help as well. The latter offers postnatal care for mothers and care for their newborns and babies up to six months.“We have a team of experienced Namibia Qualifications Authority-accredited caregivers and work closely with health professionals. We thus help minimise physical and emotional pain and suffering through servitude, love and care. "All this to maintain the dignity of life and to heal the hearts of our clients and their loved ones. The majority of our current patients are individuals battling cancer and those who are dealing with dementia,” she said.Heartfelt testimonialJana-Mari Smith, one of Peda Care’s valued clients, shared her heartfelt testimonial of the pivotal role the team played for her family. “Peda Care - in particular Miriam and her team, Jessica and Martha - were absolute lifesavers in one of the most difficult times of our family&#039;s lives.“When a close family member became critically ill and was admitted to the hospital for two months, Miriam, Jessica and Martha provided an absolutely priceless service, giving my uncle the extra care and attention that we could not always provide. "Most importantly, though, my uncle - also a brother and a much-loved father and friend - received the extra care and attention required during this time.
