Luzaan Blaauw tells Careers how a passion grew into a career.
The secret to modelling is not being perfect. What one needs is a face that people can identify in a second. Luzaan Blaauw started modelling at the age of 3 years and gained a teacher’s diploma in coaching and training models at the age of 15. Blaauw started her modelling school in Rustenburg and then opened her agency in Durban and in Cape Town.
Blaauw relocated to Windhoek 16 years ago and she is currently running a very successful modelling agency in Windhoek called the Diamond International.
Diamond international is a modelling and pageant coaching agency that focuses on building young women to be confident in who they are as individuals. To give them the necessary skills and knowledge about modelling, as well as pageantry.
Blaauw is a jack of many trades, a photographer, model and pageant coach to mention a few. Way before starting Diamond International Blaauw always had a passion for working with the youth. “I love working with little ones, teens and ladies, seeing them develop into self-confident, sophisticated models reaching and achieving their dreams. How to believe in who they and in who God created them to be,” said Blaauw.
Running a modelling agency hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Blaauw but she believes in the talent of the Namibian models and knows they can achieve and go places. Blaauw has always left talented and beautiful models in Namibia that need to be introduced to the international fashion & beauty industry.
She is very passionate about people in the industry using this platform the correct way, guiding models and potential models in a positive and sophisticated & moral direction, building their confidence and self-esteem and not breaking their image with the right model look, perfect body shape and the scale reaching the agency’s expectation but rather guiding them into a healthy and self-acceptance.
Not only does Blaauw help young girls build their confidence. she is very active working with the needy and working with disabled people guiding them to see the ability behind their disability doing a yearly pageant with the disable making them believe their potential and worthiness.
She runs a few yearly pageants ranging from Little Miss Mini Namibia to Mrs Namibia and many more together with an online photographic competition division.
As for the continuation and expansion of Diamond International in 2021, Blaauw and a business partner opened Diamond Marketing & Events, which is a social media & digital marketing agency. "The agency has now grown to international clients as well. With both our passion in marketing we are looking forward to seeing where this will take the agency," added Blaauw
