’n Sterk fondament is noodsaaklik vir enige struktuur. Dis ook waar vir ons geloof. Net soos ’n swak fondament krake of selfs ineenstorting kan veroorsaak, maak ’n onstabiele geestelike fondament dit moeilik om die lewe se swaarkry, teëstand en lyding te weerstaan.

Paulus moedig sy gelowiges aan om standvastig te midde van swaarkry te bly. Hulle het duidelik lyding in die gesig gestaar (8:35,36). Die fondament waarop gelowiges staan, is nie hulle skepping nie. Ons hoop is gegrond op God se teenwoordigheid wat ons na ’n beter toekoms lei.

Gelowiges moet aanhou bid. Gebed is om ons hoop in God te anker. Dit is om sy getrouheid te vertrou. Hy sal ons deur beproewings lei. Gebed sê: ek het God nodig. Sy onfeilbare ondersteuning gee krag om swaarkry te verduur.

Die vraag is uiteindelik: Is jou standvastigheid gebou op jou eie pogings of God se krag? Ware krag lê nie daarin om op persoonlike pogings staat te maak nie, maar om op God se krag te bou.
