Promoting Namibia to China

The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) recently wrapped up its 2023 China roadshow in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.Themed 'space and time', the roadshow - which took place from 3 to 7 July - drew more than 300 tourism industry and media representatives from across top-tier cities in China. The aim was for the NTB and its partner organisations to jointly seek and strengthen communication and cooperation, assist the industry in developing comprehensive travel packages and promote Namibian tourism in general.Namibia’s ambassador to China Dr Elia Kaiyamo, information and communication technology minister Peya Mushelenga, and officials from the Namibian embassy in China were invited to attend a networking session in Beijing. From the NTB, CEO Digu //Naobeb and head of marketing Charmaine Matheus, as well as Chinese representative Amy Zhu, brought a delegation of Namibian tourism operators to China to participate in the roadshow. They presented the latest post-pandemic information on Namibia tourism, such as visa policies and handling instructions, flight connections, destination hotels and promotional keywords.Priority marketAccording to the NTB, as an important source of international tourists, China has always been a priority market for Namibia. Even during the three-year pandemic, China was determined to stage a number of online activities for the public and the industry, all of which received positive feedback, it said. With the global tourism industry now rapidly recovering, the momentum is even stronger for China’s outbound tourism market. Through the 2023 roadshow, NTB hopes to re-ignite the passion of Chinese tourists heading to Namibia, further promote Namibia's natural and wild luxury and drive the development of more family and in-depth tours, and high-end customised tourism products. It also aims to strengthen relations between the Namibian and Chinese tourism industries.Namibia’s local tourism partners for the roadshow included China Travel Agency, Gondwana Collection Namibia, Intermix Tours and Safari, Joy Travel, Lion King Travel and Way Way Namibia Travel and Tours. NTB’s aviation partners – Ethiopian Airlines and Qatar Airways - were also present for the events.By hosting a roadshow in top-tier cities across China, NTB said it seeks to strengthen communication and cooperation, assist the industry to develop comprehensive travel packages, and promote Namibia tourism. "The board has full confidence that more and more Chinese tourists will come to Namibia to personally explore and experience the country."
