Series of lectures focused on sustainable farming
The lectures bring experts, agricultural enthusiasts and students together to delve into the intricacies of organic farming, its benefits and its role in shaping a sustainable future for Namibia.
A series of lectures will take place from September to November in an endeavour to foster sustainable and environmentally conscious practices in agriculture.
The first lecture will take place today – 26 September – with regards to the relevance of organic farming for the future.
The lectures are being hosted by the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) and the Namibian Organics Association (NOA), together with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST).
Teaching, learning
The lectures will be hosted at the NUST campus and bring experts, agricultural enthusiasts and students together to delve into the intricacies of organic farming, its benefits and its role in shaping a sustainable future for Namibia, said the NNF.
Guest speakers will include organic experts who will share their knowledge about the benefits of organic farming and how its uptake as an agricultural system can help Namibia ensure a sustainable future for all in the country.
“Organic agriculture has gained widespread attention for its holistic approach to farming that emphasises sustainability, environmental conservation and the production of nutritious, chemical-free food,” the NNF stated.
Working together
It said the guest lecture series will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices and significance of organic farming in today’s world.
The series is funded by the Knowledge Hub for Organic Agriculture in Southern Africa (KHSA), which is part of the GIZ-funded Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture.
There are five hubs in Africa, led by in-country organisations, focused on finding, validating and sharing knowledge related to organic and agro-ecological farming. NOA and NNF are KHSA in-country partners, supported by the Sustainability Institute.
