VSA presidentsvrou besoek Namibië

Claudia Reiter - Die Amerikaanse presidentsvrou Jill Biden het Woensdag in Namibië geland. Sy sal tot Sondag 26 Februarie in Namibië en Kenia wees om die Verenigde State se bande in die Afrika-vasteland te versterk en om die vennootlande se gesamentlike prioriteite in die streek te dryf.

Volgens die Amerikaanse ambassade in Windhoek sal Biden fokus op die bemagtiging van vroue en adolessente, die verligting van voedselonsekerheid en die bevordering van algemene demokratiese waardes.

Dit is die Amerikaanse presidentsvrou se sesde besoek aan Afrika - haar eerste aan Namibië en die derde aan Kenia. Biden het op 21 Februarie uit Washington vertrek.

In Windhoek is sy verwelkom deur die Namibiese presidentsvrou, Monica Geingos. Daarna het die twee die Heldeakker besoek en toe met die president Hage Geingob vergader.

Biden het gister ‘n projek in Katutura besoek wat jongmense, vroue en gesinne ondersteun deur ekonomiese geleenthede en gesondheidsdienste vir hulle meer toeganklik te maak.

Sy lewer vandag 'n toespraak aan 'n groep studente oor jongmense se rol in die toekoms en belang van die versterking van demokrasie voordat sy weer vertrek.
