Metropolitan backs youth at Newspaper Cup

Metropolitan Namibia has committed N$140,000 to ensure young athletes from all 14 regions of Namibia can participate in the 2026 Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup. The investment underscores the company’s commitment to youth development, community, and a Namibia where talent is not limited by geography or resources.Now in its 24th edition, the Cup will take place from 3 to 6 April 2026 in Keetmanshoop, //Kharas Region, bringing together under-20 football and netball teams from across the country.Metropolitan’s support will help remove barriers such as distance and limited resources, enabling every region to participate. Denille Roostee, Marketing Executive at Momentum Metropolitan, said: “We identified a gap at regional level, where young athletes needed support to simply show up and compete. That is where Metropolitan chose to step in. As a community brand, this tournament reflects our commitment to youth development.”She also highlighted the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors: “When government, private sector, and sporting bodies align, we create sustainable solutions that benefit Namibians. Thanks to the Ministry and Hon. Ballotti, these conversations are translated into real action on the ground.”The Cup is a national talent pipeline, a source of regional pride, and a driver of economic activity in host towns. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Art and Culture supports inclusive participation by providing transport, accommodation, and facility upgrades that leave a lasting legacy.Gernot De Klerk, Marketing Executive at Nedbank Namibia, added: “The Cup is about more than sport.
