Bank Windhoek Doc tournament sets new participation benchmark
The 2026 Bank Windhoek Volleyball Doc Tournament, hosted by Bank Windhoek in partnership with the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) at The Dome in Swakopmund on 28–29 March, marked one of the strongest editions in the event’s 42-year history.
The tournament attracted a record 39 teams, 16 women’s and 23 men’s, with eleven clubs making their debut appearance, signalling a surge of new talent and an expanding national volleyball footprint. Competitors battled for a total prize pool of N$120,000, with trophies and medals awarded to the top-performing teams, reinforcing a culture of excellence and motivating clubs to invest in training and performance.
Adding a regional dimension, Green Buffaloes Volleyball Club from Lusaka, Zambia, made a standout debut, claiming both the men’s and women’s titles. Despite their victories, the team acknowledged the high level of competition posed by Namibian clubs.
In the women’s division, Namibia Correctional Service Volleyball Club finished second, Blaze Aces Volleyball Club third, Revivals Volleyball Club fourth, and NamPol Volleyball Club fifth. In the men’s division, Namibia Correctional Service Volleyball Club placed second, Namibia Defence Force Raptors third, NamPower Volleyball Club fourth, and Afrocat Sports Club D fifth.
The Doc Tournament remains a premier platform for athletes to test their skills, build networks, and progress toward national-team ambitions. Participation in volleyball continues to grow across schools, community clubs, and national leagues, reflecting the sport’s rising profile in Namibia.
For over a decade, Bank Windhoek has been a committed partner in volleyball development, contributing N$560,000 in 2026 to renew its sponsorship of the NVF. This support strengthens athlete development, competition structures, and opportunities for players to represent Namibia with pride.
“Sport is more than competition. It is a powerful tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion, and national pride,” said Samuel Linyondi, Bank Windhoek Strategic Communication Manager. “Tournaments like this create platforms where dreams are born, future champions are discovered, and young people learn discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. We were highly impressed by the level of competition from all teams.”
NVF President Tobias Mwatelulo welcomed Bank Windhoek’s continued support, highlighting the partnership’s role in elevating tournament standards and sustaining a platform trusted by players and fans alike.
Linyondi concluded, “Bank Windhoek congratulates all participating teams, officials, and volunteers for contributing to a successful 2026 edition. Our support is part of a broader investment in community upliftment and sport development, helping create safe, positive spaces where talent can thrive.”
