Antunes wants the job done
Futsal Namibia men’s head coach Marcos Antunes hopes his players can put together another big performance in their away match against Kenya on Wednesday.
Namibia will battle the Kenyans in the second leg of the Afcon Futsal Qualifiers in Nairobi.
The Namibian team goes into the match with a 8-4 lead in the second leg of their tie.
The team that wins the tie between Namibia and Kenya will face Libya in the final qualifying match, with the eventual winners of this round heading to the continental showpiece hosted in Morocco in April 2026.
The Portuguese-born coach is however guarding against complacency, as he believes anything can happen if the players feel that they have done the job in Namibia.
“Look, I am well aware that this tie is not over yet and we will have to play at our best in order to get over the line.
“The truth is that Kenya were not bad against us in Namibia, even if we managed to beat them with that score-line.
“The fact that they managed to score four goals shows they are a threat that we will have to control,” Antunes said.
Namibia made its futsal Afcon debut in 2024, also held in Morocco, where the Brave Five lost their pool matches against Mauritania (4-5), Egypt (3-10) and Libya (5-11).
Strong 14-squad
The coach has selected the same squad that battled Kenya in Swakopmund in the first leg, before playing the second leg in Nairobi on 28 January.
The named players are:
Goalkeepers: Riya Usurua, Rigardo Rooy.
Defenders: Nanguei Kamatuka, Donald Modise.
Wingers: Bornface Siyanga, Celu Tobias, Nigel Prins, Luis Solunga, Ichshaun von Francois, Wesley Otto, George Haikali.
Pivots: Ken Salote (captain), Martin Humphries, Celso Roberto.
