The serene atmosphere immediately calms you upon entering the lodge. Kashana prides itself on the fact that it was awarded as the best accommodation establishment in Namibia. This, coupled with friendly and ready to serve staff members, ensures that guests usually stay a day or two to explore what the surrounding areas have on offer.Accommodation is affordable, at N$400 per person, including breakfast. “Kashana” is a word from the Owambo language and translates into “wide open plain”. It appears that previous inhabitants have been inspired by the bush savannah that surrounds the country house in choosing this name. Built in 1907 during the German colonial rule, the main building originally served as a casino, Kashana, for mine workers. Over the years it was used for different purposes and unfortunately became dilapidated. The new owners restored the building to its former architectural glory and in August 2007 Kashana Country House was opened. The lodge’s main building was built out of recycled material by Omaruru resident Trevor Nott and his construction team. The lodge boasts 16 chalets. Each unit has an en suite bathroom, air conditioning, mini-bar, mosquito nets, tea and coffee station, television, WiFi and an in-room safe.The facility also houses a restaurant serving Namibian style food, ranging from succulent meat to seafood fresh from the Atlantic Ocean. Continental and English breakfasts are available, along with an à la carte menu and a set menu for lunch and dinner. The restaurant consists of an open air area, where guests can enjoy a cold drink or two under the shade of local indigenous ana trees.
