Shona NgavaYoung Achievers is a youth organization that aims to empower young people with a sense of mission and vision in life and to ensure that those in high school make it to tertiary institutions and achieve their vision in life.The Katutura based organisation was founded in 2004 by Pandu Hailonga with the main aim of providing a young people with a vocational training, empowerment through motivational talks and career guidance. Michael Mulunga, who is the manager of the Windhoek Branch of the organisation says the organisation started off from humble beginings and has thus far had a lasting impact in the lives of the youth. “Through the organisation we gave the young people of Katutura a chance to become responsible citizens on the local, regional and global level with a mission in life,” says Mulunga.Mulunga says they strive to improve the wellbeing of its members by making sure that they are motivated at all times. He highlights that through regular events such as their annual conference, career fair and excursion around Namibia they expose the youth to experiences that build their character. “At the organisations we focus on making our members professional, smart and we also make it possible that they gain all the necessary skills they can use to take up lives challenges,” he says. According to Mulunga there are more than 400 members that are registered with the organisation and says everyone is welcome to join the organisation. “The organisation has attracted members from different age groups, sexes, nationality and socioeconomic background. Initially it has attracted learners in Grade 10 and 12 but is has since expanded by accommodating much more people. The aim is to make the youth self-reliant and to develop their self-esteem,” says Mulunga.The Young Achievers has a Resource Center that is located in Shandumbala, Katutura and operates from five branches across the country at Rundu, Gabriel Taapopi, Eloolo, Walvis Bay and Tsumeb.
