World teacher’s day

World teacher’s day is celebrated on 5 October every year. My Zone visited Technical School Windhoek (HTS) and asked the learners what they could do to show their teachers more appreciation.Shaun CloeteTeachers put in a lot of work daily that goes unnoticed. We as learners can show appreciation by working hard, meeting them halfway in most aspects, by being disciplined and always complimenting them on lesson content.Abraham ShimpanduTeachers usually put in all the effort, this means sometimes taking time from their family time, such as teaching on weekends to give as much help as possible. We could appreciate them by giving back excellent academic results.Maria JohannesTeachers go through the most with learners. I would say we start by showing respect and giving thanks, by simply sending them little gifts and tokens of appreciation. One could find out their favourite snack and surprise them with it.Sharifa CloeteThere’s a lot of ways to appreciate teachers, one of them is to send an email to the principal mentioning how awesome they are. Mention a specific project, strategy, or moment that impressed you. If you’re a teacher, brag about something cool that a colleague did. This not only allows leaders to see how awesome a teacher is but it also provides a bright spot for leaders when they are inundated with complaints.Zurge AbrahamFirst of all, good behaviour in class is of utmost importance. This serves as a sign to the teacher that the learners appreciate what the teacher is doing. Secondly, I would say surprise them daily, do good in academics, give them compliments and ask questions.Nathan PetersenBe a responsible learner. This means listening in class, behaving, assisting your teacher with what they need. Most importantly, pay attention in class. Let the teachers know of the impact they make on learners’ lives by reminding them daily that they shape the future of learners.
