When challenges become accomplishments

Wetumwene Shikage Simone Mouton is a senior consultant at Alexander Forbes (AF) Financial Services She was born in a small village in the south of Namibia and raised in various towns including Tsumeb, Lüderitz and Windhoek. She attended primary school in Tsumeb and Lüderitz, and then proceeded to grade eight in Keetmanshoop and completed high school at Mariental Secondary School. Mouton started her career at Corporate Benefits Consulting in 2003 before joining Alexander Forbes in December 2006. Mouton rose through the ranks at Alexander Forbes from Assistant consultant to senior consultant. She also managed the coastal branch in Walvis Bay from 2012.As a senior consultant, her job entails providing professional, quality service and consulting advice to clients. She is also responsible for managing and retaining a portfolio of corporate clients in accordance with the company standards.ChallengesMouton noticed her biggest challenge when she was appointed as consultant at the Walvis Bay branch to manage the AF client portfolio on her own. Although she received technical support from a senior in Windhoek, she was fully responsible for all deliverables on clients.Mouton says her challenges were also her biggest accomplishment. She was able to maintain the company’s client base and manage to grow the coastal portfolio over the years. She also built strong relationships with AF coastal clients. “I was able to prove to myself that hard work and dedication to a great company brand can make you achieve greater heights,” she says.Her typical day consists of proactively identifying client issues and solutions, preparing and managing formal client meetings, facilitating and coordinating departments. She says her children are her daily inspiration. “They inspire me to live life to my fullest God-given potential. I want them to know that all things are possible through hard work and commitment,” she says.She reminds those on the same career path as her that they are worthy of accomplishments. “Where there is a will to succeed, there is a way. Just trust in yourself. God will do the rest.”Mouton’s future plans include obtaining a Higher Certificate in Financial Planning through Millpark Education.
