In the spirit of heritage week celebrations, My Zone asked some learners from Otjiwarongo Secondary School how they would like to be celebrated and empowered as sons and daughters of African soil. Here is what they had to say…
Laticia Haifeke
As an African child, I would like to be celebrated and empowered by being allowed to work while under the age of 18. This will allow me to learn responsibility and hard work.
Levine Gauases
I want to be empowered by being taught about my culture and my heritage. I want to know about the roots I originated from and take pride in the African child that I am.
Theopoltine Namases
As a proud African child, I would like to be empowered by a united nation to achieve success. I would like to be celebrated as a bold and strong Namibian child.

I feel there is still a lot of racial discrimination and I personally want more rights or celebrations that are against racial discrimination.
Russel Matsuib
As an African child, I’d like to be known not just by my name but to be recognised by my effort, brilliance, hard work and independence. Not to be limited by my inabilities but inabilities, but to be unique.

I would like to be celebrated by getting a week off school where we celebrate learners and get to meet our role models as well as collect stationery for the less fortunate in our school and distribute it during our week off.
