Vote wisely
BAB WRITES FROM //KHARAS:
We had trusted the Government by voting it into power to represent our political expectations and aspirations etc.
However, what we are witnessing is something different completely. We gave a mandate to the same former ministers, now the question begs: how many times do we want to be bitten by the same snake?
I agree with those people who says the auction will just become a second Fishrot. Any Government has certain political obligations towards the citizens, whilst the citizens also have certain political rights.
As such the provision of socio-economic amenities to its citizens is the sole constitutional right of the Government. To cite just a few of these amenities, viz. road maintenance, water provision, construction of decent houses and provision of electricity etc.
All these responsibilities have been commercialized and services made very expensive. The citizens are now paying exorbitant prices for services that are supposed to be subsidised by the Government. The simple reasons for this is to pay for the high salaries of the CEO's and board members of inter alia NamPower, TransNamib, NamWater, Air Namibia, NaTIS, NHE, the Roads Authority, RCC, RFA and even Water Point Committees in the communal areas. Imagine, where should these impoverished rural communities get money to afford these exorbitant ever increasing prices.
All these attractive and lucrative proposals ended up in mismanagement and scandalously high levels of corruption, which was coming for about 15 years. What happened to the N$8.1 billion that was budgeted for the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic?
Over the past two years those at the pinnacle of the allocation of these 185 fishing rights have been taking the citizens for a ride.
They will come up with nice proposals, but all you will hear at the end is that the money have been stolen. Nobody can account, nobody goes to jail and nobody is being fired etc. This is ludicrous and it warrants wise voting during the upcoming regional and local authority elections.
I put my head on a block, we will for sure hear funny things at the end of the day. It is a demonstration of well connected cantankerous solidarity corruption to protect common political camaraderie, as comrades have the same economic, political and social interest.
It is a proven fact that the Government has no respect for the electorate, who voted them into power. What they are busy doing is not what they were entrusted with.
Therefore, my appeal is that they should give full account of the N$8.1 billion.
