10 August 2020 | Plaaslik
Chief Marketing Officer at Namibia Media Holdings, Hennie Geldenhuys, discusses the Careers Focus edition that will be published tomorrow, as well as the Virtual Careers Expo taking place on 12 August.

Q:Tell our readers a bit more about the upcoming Careers Focus publication.

A:With the theme “Decoding 21st Century Careers”, Namibia Media Holdings publishes our popular Careers Focus on 11 August 2020, with the aim of informing, empowering and motivating the nation about different career paths.

The Careers Focus edition is targeted not only at school leavers, but also those that seek bursaries, internship opportunities, or want to re-direct their careers. Making a decision about what to study after high school is a daunting yet exhilarating task.

With more than 250 careers covered, the Careers Focus sets out to broaden your horizon on the possibilities and opportunities that await after you don your school uniform one last time.

Q:What makes this publication so unique, and what can readers look forward to reading?

A:The objective is to inform and educate the public on available products and services; to assist these groups to boost their skills through providing information on where you can get extra classes; new technical learning methods that are changing; as well as financial institutions. Furthermore, this publication focuses on an impressive number of unique career options, affording a company the chance to be aligned with this unique format of information.

Industries that are featured, especially now and to mention just a few are:

Health and Social Services – Health professionals all over the world are the frontrunners during this pandemic and risk their lives to ensure that we are safe.
Education – Teachers and stakeholders in the education fraternity are forced to be creative and innovative to ensure that no child is left behind in terms of receiving an education.
Transport and Logistics – Although borders are closed, essential goods still need to be transported. Truck drivers and logistics officials have done a great deal to ensure that goods reach their destination.
Tourism – This is one of the most badly hit industries due to the pandemic. The tourism industry has started to change their business model with more focus on local travellers. Tips are shared in the magazine.
Media – With the digital age fast approaching, providing correct and factual information has never been more important, especially now. The media has played a huge role in doing just that.

Q:What sparked the idea for this publication?

A:NMH believes that if we use real professionals to illustrate their passion for their career choices, this will make the choices in the life of a potential up-and-coming career professional much easier.

Many of the careers presented in this publication include personalised accounts of professionals working in their respective fields, who share the triumphs, trials, wisdom and joys in their particular career field.

We envision that this publication will serve as a source of excitement when considering the possibilities that are waiting for you at the other side of your school gate, and your last exam.

Q:Can you tell us what we can expect with the first Virtual Careers Expo taking place on 12 August?

A:We will be celebrating “International Youth Day” on 12 August 2020, and what better way to express career opportunities in the 21st century and those unique to Namibia, than having a Virtual Careers Expo.

The Virtual Careers Expo will focus on universities, vocational training centres, career professionals, and institutions offering a product or services to the unique career searching individual.

We will profile each by way of a virtual tour of their campus and or establishment, and have them present to answer questions, and spark a digital conversations with audiences via our website application platform

Q:Who can businesses contact if they would like to get involved in the Virtual Careers Expo in future?

A:Universities and establishments are welcome to contact me, Hennie Geldenhuys at NMH Marketing on 061-297 2000 or [email protected] for more information.
