Village boy making moves in the city

Monique AdamsPaulus Weyulu is a fibre support technician at Paratus Nambia and has been working at their headquarters in Prosperita for three years now.He was born at Eenhana and raised in a small village called Onghwiyu in the Ohangwena Region. He then moved to Windhoek in search for a better life and got his first job at Paratus in September 2017.He says he loves his job. “It keeps me busy and focused and I really enjoy working with a team that is equally as passionate as I am to make a difference in our country and in Africa as a whole.” He says he has a great leadership team who keeps inspiring him to understand the importance of teamwork. He is proud to be a part of the team that is pushing boundaries to make sure everyone has access to fast and reliable internet access through fibre-optic cables.What inspires Paulus most in his career is that even though he comes from a small village and humble beginnings, he is still fortunate enough to be doing what he loves every day and what keeps him wanting more is the dream of a better life.After having worked at Paratus for only two months, Paulus was named employee of the month in November 2017. “Every day is a learning process and in the first month of working, I was doing a lot of on-the-job training and it made me realise that one is never too smart to learn something. Three years in and I am still learning every day,” he says.Paulus always starts his day with a prayer and a cup of coffee, right before his daily morning meeting with the team. One of the few things that might surprise his friends or colleagues is that he is fascinated by subsea cables and would love to work on the fibre cables that run under the sea.Paulus hopes to build a strong name for himself before he retires and hopes to inspire those around him.“It is very important that you focus on what you want, work hard to achieve your goals and then shut out all the other things that won’t get you closer to your dreams,” he says.
