Vikings victorious at Volleyball for All
A total of 240 teams battled for top spot on Saturday at the annual Volleyball for All event that took place at DTS.
The Vikings rose victorious after winning all their matches although Ez-Pass put up a fight in the final game, they were no match for the much determined team.
According to Tuna Coetzee, marketing manager of Bel Esprit, volleyball is a great event to stay healthy.
“We consume a lot more fast foods and this gives everyone an opportunity to get outside and do some exercise while not even realising it.
“We all turned up to have fun and it doubles as a great team building exercise among colleagues.
“This is the second year they entered the Volleyball for All, “and although the Unstoppable Unicorn struggled on the court, we still had great fun,” she added.
Coetzee further added that for other avid players it's a good way to see how they fare against their peers, while not being too competitive.
“This is a much-anticipated event on sport and entertainment calendars and is a sure sign that the new year is in full swing.”
The event has grown tremendously since it first started, starting with only 35 teams. Three years later, they more than doubled with 90 teams participating.
According to the chairperson of the Namibia Beach Volleyball Academy and tournament director, James Verrinder, they have attracted 240 teams for the past seven years and although they would like to accommodate more teams, they won't be able to due to resource constraints.
“This event is all about sport, fun and having a good time with friends, family and colleagues,” he said.
The organisers are thankful for their sponsors, especially Namibia Breweries' Windhoek Draught brand, which has been a staunch supporter of the tournament since 2001 and since taking over as main sponsor a decade ago.
They also thanked media partner Radiowave as well as NHP that decided to continue their co-sponsorship.
