Van Wyk, Pienaar wear crown at Omeya

Last weekend Omeya Golf Club hosted its annual club championships. With 81 participants it was the biggest field since the inception of the event and players were treated to fantastic prizes, welcome gifts and a golf course in superb condition. Play took place over two days with all divisions playing 36 holes to crown the respective champions. In the men's division Gielie van Wyk was victorious, putting together two fantastic rounds with a tough course setup and beating 2017 champion Francois Hanekom by six shots.In the ladies division 2017 champion Adri Pienaar was put to the test by new Omeya homeowner Zandra Kruger. Adri teed off on Sunday trailing by one shot, but fought back with an excellent gross of 82 to pip overnight leader Zandra by four shots. In the junior division Damian da Silva was victorious, with Janneman Brand Junior securing second position. This weekend Omeya is proud to once again join hands with Sanlam to host the 2018 Cancer Challenge Qualifier in aid of the Cancer Association. Management would like to thank Wessel Kotze from Sanlam for all the behind the scenes work and for what he does for the Cancer Association. Play kicks off at 08:30 from the 1st and 10th tees.COUNTRY CLUBThe Windhoek Golf & Country Club will host the second of its two Dulux sponsored betterball stableford competitions this weekend. Dulux is sponsoring the series of two events at almost every golf club countrywide, which will end in a final towards the yearend.Twenty-four teams participated in the first competition during February with a total number of 48 players.The WGCC's first round of the Dulux Series was won by Armand Smit and Toady Gurirab (47 points), one ahead of Paul Adkins and Melt van Schoor (46).Tee-off times for tomorrow are:08:10 T.
