Unam defeated Sparta 12-0 and clinched the final of the Kudu XV Rugby tournament at Jan Wilken Stadium at Walvis Bay.

The winners of the tournament, which also saw newly appointed national team coach Johan Diergaardt in attendance, pocketed N$5 000, while the runners-up received N$2 500.

Tighthead prop Hauta Veii crashed over for the first try and fly-half Delron Brand added the conversion. The score was 7-0 at halftime.

Brand scored a second try for Unam when play resumed, but missed the conversion. Unam kept Sparta from crossing the chalk line with some tight defensive play and frustrated the coastal side.

Eight teams including the Dolphins, Falcons, Grootfontein, hosts Kudus I and II, Sparta, Unam and Vikings competed in the tournament, which produced 16 matches in total.

Kudus I, on 14 points, and Sparta with eight points advanced into the semi-final round from group one. With 12 points, Kudus II and Unam, with 11 points, advanced from group two.

Sparta defeated the surprise package of the tournament Kudus II by 7-0 in the first semi-final. Inside centre Deon Venter crashed over and also converted his try during the first half, for the only points of the match.

Unam defeated Kudus I with 8-3 in the second semi-final. Neither teams managed to score any points in the first half with fly-half Brand missing two difficult penalty kicks for Unam.

Unam scrum-half and captain Cameron Classen scored a try and the first points on behalf of his team (5-0) when play resumed. He also added a penalty (8-0) before the Kudus flyhalf Ulratio Lawrence replied with a penalty (8-3).
