Unam appoints pro-vice chancellor
The University of Namibia is pleased to inform all its stakeholders that the University Council has appointed Prof Frednard Gideon as the new UNAM Pro-Vice Chancellor: Academic Affairs (PVC: AA).
His appointment is effective from 01 January 2017 and is set for a period of five years. The current tenure of the incumbent, Prof Osmund Mwandemele, ends on 31 December 2016. The University applauds his countless contributions to UNAM, and wishes him well in his future endeavours. The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs’ office serves as the Vice-Chancellor’s Chief Advisor and Assistant on academic matters. It provides strong academic leadership, with a view of fostering standards of excellence in teaching, research and publication in all faculties, academic centres and the University library. It also includes developing academic programmes and curricula which are responsive to the socio-economic development needs of Namibia, the SADC region and Africa at large. Gideon, who is a UNAM graduate, and Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, obtained his PhD in Applied Mathematics (Banking & Finance – Risk Management and Basel II), from North-West University, as well as a Master’s in Science in Mathematics from Rhodes University. He has commendable leadership qualities, and has served the University for several years in various capacities, his latest position being the Dean of the Faculty of Science.
