Twitter, FB verwelkom Emmerson met ope arms
Robert Mugabe, oudpresident van Zimbabwe, het eenkeer na sosiale media as “vuil” verwys, maar sy opvolger, Emmerson Mnangagwa, het Vrydag 'n baie gewilde buiging op Twitter en Facebook gemaak.
“Hello Zimbabwe and the World. I am proud to announce that this is my official twitter page. Thank you. President of Zimbabwe.”
Teen Maandag omstreeks 13:00 het hy amper 38 000 volgelinge op Twitter gehad en byna 125 000 op Facebook.
Mnangagwa, wat einde 2017 by Mugabe as president oorgeneem het, het in een van sy eerste twiets 'n beroep op Zimbabwiërs gedoen om hulle nie tydens die nasionale verkiesing wat na verwagting later vanjaar plaasvind, tot geweld te wend nie.
“When we go to the elections you should not fight. When people support their parties it's their choice. We should work for the people and not be selfish. There should be justice and national reconciliation because we cannot progress when communities are in conflict. God bless Zimbabwe. President of Zimbabwe.”
Mnangagwa weet die verkiesing hang grotendeels af van hoe die jeug gaan stem, en aangesien byna almal in Zimbabwe nou selfone het, het sy veldtog op die regte noot begin.
