Me. Viktoria Keding, direkteur van die Namibwoestyn Omgewingsonderrig-trust (NaDEET) in die NamibRand Natuurreservaat, het 'n gesogte internasionale toekenning ingepalm.

Keding het op 15 Februarie in Stuttgard, in Duitsland, die Yves Rocher-stigting se Terre de Femmes-toekenning vir 2017 losgeslaan.

“Ek voel geëerd om die prys te wen. Ek is opgewonde dat NaDEET se werk in omgewingsonderrig erkenning kry,” het Keding gesê.

Die prysgeld van 10 000 euro gaan 'n groot verskil aan NaDEET maak, sê sy.

Die Yves Rocher-stigting is deel van die Instituut van Frankryk.

Hul Terre de Femmes-toekenning het in 15 jaar al 350 vroulike wenners uit 50 lande aangewys - almal vrouens wat hulle vir natuurbewaring beywer.

Keding het NaDEET in 2003 gestig om Namibiërs te oortuig om 'n volhoubare lewenstyl te handhaaf om die natuur en die groot verskeidenheid spesies in Namibië te beskerm.

Meer as 12 000 kinders en volwassenes het NaDEET al besoek waar hulle meer oor herwinbare energie, waterbestuur en die biodiversiteit van die Namibwoestyn leer. By die sentrum word van son-oonde en emmerstorte gebruik gemaak.

Gemeenskappe word met kennis toegerus om die impak van hul aksies op die omgewing beter te verstaan.

Hulle word ook met toerusting soos son-oonde, sonkragligte en brandstofdoeltreffende stowe toegerus.

Groentetuine word in gemeenskappe gevestig en meer as 200 bome is al geplant.
