Sondag om 11:30 het die bestuurder van 'n vragmotor, wat aan Transworld Roadfreight behoort, glo nie by die spoorwegoorgang op Mariental gestop nie en met 'n trein gebots. Daar word beweer die bestuurder van die vragmotor, met 'n Suid-Afrikaanse registrasienommer, het nie vir die aankomende trein gestop nie. Die twee TransNamib-lokomotiewe het teen die vragmotor gebots en hom sowat 100 m ver gesleep. Die impak van die slag het die vragmotor in twee geskeur.
