The Toyota Urban Cruiser Xs

The Urban Cruiser, introduced in March this year, has found great favour with the South African public. Racking up over 900 sales each month, its blend of space, SUV-like styling, affordability and Toyota brand-footprint, has made a notable impact on the passenger car segment in just a few short months.While the range-topping Xr grade was the focal point at launch timing, it is the mid-grade Xs model that offers a stellar value proposition to customers in this segment and means that Toyota has a broader model offering than its natural rivals.To this point, the Xs boasts keyless-entry with push start, electric windows all round, tilt-adjustable steering, power-adjustable mirrors, LED headlamps and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) as standard. In addition, the exterior also features alloy wheels, roof rails, body-coloured door handles, power-retractable mirrors and rear window wiper with demister function.Occupants are not left out of the equation, with auto air-conditioning (climate control), a secondary glove compartment, rear armrest and 60:40 split backrest catering to their comfort and convenience needs. Rear Park Distance Control (PDC) and reverse camera, offer drivers additional peace of mind.The Urban Cruiser features a touchscreen infotainment system which incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing users seamless smartphone connectivity.With this functionality, occupants can access and display Google Maps, Waze and Apple Maps for navigational duty while also streaming their favourite music from apps such as Apple Music, Spotify, SoundCloud and JOOX.CommunicationText and messaging-service messages can be read out to the user, with speech-to-text functionality ensuring safe communication while driving. Bluetooth, Aux and USB inputs are also catered for.The Urban Cruiser features rugged urban styling with a raised stance, textured side- and wheel-arch mouldings and bumper guards. A large radiator grille with two horizontal slats and centred Toyota badge are flanked by chrome accent strips and LED projector headlamps.The side profile continues the ‘squared-off’ look, with short overhangs and black wheel mouldings that blend into the lower bumper area. A piano black C-pillar garnish creates the impression of a floating roof structure - which flows to the ‘chunky’ rear with large, rectangular taillights and an embossed tailgate garnish.In Xs guise, the Urban Cruiser is equipped with black 16-inch alloy wheels visually tying in with the black moulded trim and C-pillar garnish, creating a striking look. These are shod with 215-60-R16 tyres with a full-size spare wheel in the boot.The cabin offers a comfortable space characterised by excellent ergonomics and optimised exterior visibility. A sporty 3-spoke steering wheel with metallic inserts and steering switches, frames the easy-to-read elliptical gauges and a centrally-mounted Multi-Information Display (MID). -MOTORPRESS
