Monique AdamsRaith’s Bakery in Windhoek was started by master baker Thomas Raith in 1996 as a relatively small-scale, family-run bakery with 30 employees.Today, Raith’s remains family run and only bakes with the finest ingredients and does not use premixes of any nature.They produce a variety of baked goods such as rolls, bread, pastries, confectionery, muffins, cakes, ice-cream and catering supplies. Even with their large product base they still surpass their competitors with superior customer satisfaction with every interaction.“Our customer base ranges from supermarkets to coffee shops, airlines, tour operators, hotels and many more. The bakery consists of state-of-the-art, fully and semi-automated production bases and is operational six days a week, with the capacity to produce large volumes of products each day,” Raith says.Their employees are highly trained and their recognisable fleet of vehicles ensure that all goods are distributed fresh to their customers.The company strives to stay ahead of the competition and their research development team is continuously working and innovating to bringing new products to the industry.Raith’s bakery management team consists of Thomas Raith, who runs the business with full support from his manager Silvia Goldbeck, who has many years of experience in the food industry.Adjacent to Goldbeck is Savisia Slinger, who manages the invoicing and all the orders for prompt and correct delivery.Slinger is supported by bakery manager Franco Zillio, who is in charge of the bakery itself and the workforce.“We believe firmly in providing the right training and practical knowledge for our people, in order for them to execute their duties and responsibilities confidently. Our aim is to stay relevant to the ever-changing market place and client’s requirements,” Raith says.Goldbeck says they are proud to be a bit old school to when it comes to mixing their dough. They try to keep it as natural as possible when it comes to ingredients and they prefer not to use any premixes and as few preservatives as possible.“We are active on social media platforms, which attracts customers and we get to communicate with them. Our customers love our filled rolls, pies and confectionery items, most probably because they are freshly baked and prepared every day,” Goldbeck says.Some of the challenges the company faced is the impact of Covid-19, which affected their business because they supply many schools, hotels and airline catering businesses, which were closed because of the virus.Raith wants to see the business becoming Namibia’s number one bakery by having a supply of freshly baked goods in their shops, which will also help grow other local businesses.“Being active in the market for 25 years is a great achievement for the company and we see that as success. My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to always stay humble and committed to your goals,” Goldbeck says.
