Team South Africa also gear up for MX
THE Waldschmidt family is engaged in Moto-X for decades already. Eckhard and his younger brother Ingo were at the helm of the Windhoek Moto Cross Club for many years and it was during their reigns that the WMCC progressed. The most shining example is the Gallina Motocross Park which was built on the Waldschmidt egg farm.
Both Waldschmidts also excelled during their careers as MX-riders and Ingo is still active and will tackle the Paris-Dakar Rally in January 2008. Waldschmidt Eggs will be the patron for the team from South Africa.
It is always a major problem to obtain rider-profiles from these chaps from south of the Orange river! But one exception and that is the living legend Geoff Den (photo).
For Geoff it is already his 8th Inter-Series and he loves the unique atmosphere of the annual Inter-Series here in Namibia. Geoff has won all categories in his home country and at his age he’s participating in the Masters National Class and currently holds 2nd position. He raced in 6 AMUAfrican Championships in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia and twice in South Africa, he raced the Veterans World Cup in Namur in Belgium in 2006 and 2007 and he raced the Veterans World Cup at Glen Helen in California.
Geoff will compete on his trustworthy Suzuki RMZ 450 in the Open-Class in Namibia. Geoff gets accompanied by Lloyd Vercueil. Lloyd, born on 18th July 1989, is a multiple South African Champion in various categories and tried his luck overseas in Germany in 2007 for Team Silent Sport where he finished the German 125 Championships in 8th position and came 5th in the ADAC Youngster Cup, most probably the most competitive category in Europe. Lloyd is racing his fast Suzuki RMZ 250.
Liam O’Farrel is currently leading the 125cc Class in South Africa and he will show his potential at Gallina. JC de Bruin is found in 3rd spot in the same category so we can witness some highspeed action by these youngsters. Another talent is Brendan Crookes who will compete in the Open-Class.
He is also one of the best riders in South Africa and found in 3rd spot behind aces like champion Freddie Fourie and Ian Topliss. And there will be Gary Killian who frankly says he’s coming for the party! In the international Quad-AClass, South Africa will be represented by Gerald Malan, Paulo Costa and Juan Coetzee. This is an impressive line-up from South Africa!
