Team Namibia to boost business
Team Namibia will soon embark on an 18-month business development project to increase the production and trade capacities of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Team Namibia Marketing Officer, ms. Faith Arnat, said the project will target micro and small entrepreneurs with promising business ideas.
The formal and informal businesses must be located in Katutura, Khomasdal or Otjomuise.
Arnat said Team Namibia wants to assist beneficiaries in identifying competitive and viable business opportunities, with an emphasis on mobilising local funding and operational business management.
“The project is aimed at helping Team Namibia achieve its mandate of increasing the consumption of local products and services by investing in the quality output of Namibia's SMEs and ultimately enhance our country's capacity,” she said.
Arnat added the project is a pilot with a purely practical and success orientated concept that addresses existing challenges of small businesses in informal settlements.
Selected beneficiaries will participate in a know-how transfer programme that will consist of individual workshops in classroom and case studies.
They will also participate in role-plays and practical mentoring at their existing set-ups where they will be expected to apply the business knowledge gained. Arnat noted that 25 beneficiaries will be selected in Team Namibia's efforts to eradicate poverty in Namibia.
Application forms and submission points are available at local council offices in Katutura.
The call for participation is open until 31 January, 2017.
She said the project will be funded by the Embassy of Finland in Namibia to the tune of N$ 1,9 million for SMEs' integration into the national and international economies.
“The project's funding by entities such as the Embassy of Finland will aid in developing Namibia's SME sector and the next generation of business leaders,” Arnat said.
She encouraged Team Namibia's members to meet their financial obligations to the organisation.
