Swakopmund's old swimming pool
JOHN HOPKINS WRITES:
Open letter to the CEO
Swakopmund Municipality
Old Swakopmund Swimming Pool Erf No. 4747
As a resident of Swakopmund I feel I must place on record my great displeasure with the fact that the old Swakopmund Swimming Pool site has been totally neglected for close on four years.
It has become a haven for drug dealers and criminals and now recently tourists passing by on the beachfront have been attacked, robbed and stabbed with knives. This property is a disgrace and is extremely unsightly for the tourist town of Swakopmund.
This situation can no longer be tolerated and it is the Local Authorities’ responsibility to safeguard the residents and visitors in the municipal area of Swakopmund. The Municipality must take responsibility for the management of the contractual obligations of the private property owner, and instruct that the area be cleared of all structures. The site must be made safe, attractive and opened up until such time as the developers are ready and able to develop the site.
I appeal to you as the CEO of the Swakopmund Municipality to take firm action regarding this matter.
