Suzuki S-Cross foretells Qashqai rival

The Suzuki S-Cross concept is a thinly veiled version of the Japanese carmaker's new C-segment crossover that will soon take the battle to softroaders like the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.

Suzuki hints that a high-tech all-wheel drive system will be part of the equation. It also says that the vehicle was designed primarily for comfort and that the production version will have one of the largest luggage compartments in its segment.

It shouldn't be left lagging when it comes to powertrain technology either. Although Suzuki hasn't mentioned any engine specifics as yet, it does claim that the production model will be among the lowest-emitting vehicles in the crossover C-segment.

The exterior design of the concept shouldn't change much in its transition to the showroom floor and while there's nothing too groundbreaking about its styling, it is a neat enough attempt.

Design highlights on the concept include boldly flared wheel arches, 20-inch chrome alloy wheels and a large mesh grille finished in dark and silky chrome.

An interesting feature is its roof rails, which integrate neatly into the roof line when they're not being used.

Wrap-around rear window adds uniqueness to what is otherwise a rather generic design.

Contrary to what we would have expected, the S-Cross is not going to replace the SX-4 in the near future, Suzuki stating that it will join the existing Suzuki range.
