Striving to be extraordinary

Mariselle StofbergMaija Lelly Nghifikwa has been a client service consultant at the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) since 2016. She strives to make a difference in the lives of others and is passionate about working with people. “The highlight of my day is making a difference in the lives of our members. It warms my heart that I can assist the elderly and ensure their needs are met. Some members enter the building frustrated, worried and angry, but I make it my responsibility to assist them and ultimately put a smile on their faces,” Nghifikwa says. Nghifikwa’s role is not only to provide relevant GIPF services to the members, but she also ensures that customers are emotionally cared for when they leave the office. “I believe that a helping hand is a touching hand.” Nghifikwa’s daily challenges include working in a diverse environment. She learned that working in a multicultural environment accords her an opportunity to learn about different cultures and backgrounds.“I believe in excellent work. Thus, I continuously strive towards contributing to the service excellence pillar at GIPF. I further ensure that the right information is given to the right person in a fast and humane manner,” she says. Nghifikwa has a variety of hobbies. “I love spending quality time with my family and friends. Furthermore, I love reading as it broadens my knowledge and horizon. I also love travelling and cooking for my family. I do not waste time on unnecessary big rocks. I am not ruled by technology; I rule technology. Thus, I have time to prioritise and schedule my daily activities to fit my family and friends. I believe in a balanced lifestyle. My work does not interfere in my personal or emotional life.”Nghifikwa loves the working environment at the GIPF and sees herself occupying a management position soon.
