Self-service or public service

Dani Booysen
HOMO SAPIENS WRITES:

Public representatives (town, region, country) serve the public, based on promises of intent, a contract with the people.

Democratic governance is of, by for, and with the people. It is a matter of honor, trust, respect and integrity.

Promises and service delivery must be transparent and accountable. Promises broken is trust betrayed. Elected servants must have a good memory to deliver and prepare for the next election.

Some representatives aspire to power in order to access resources and inside information, for greedy self-enrichment. Corruption is stealing a better future from the poor.

Ubuntu, Harambee, togetherness and entitled BEE must not be used as a smokescreen for self-enrichment. Fishrot is the tip of a deep iceberg.

Politicians and senior civil servants must declare their assets and interests, and be up to date with their taxes.

In serving each other with competence, pragmatism and integrity, we all can become free. A criminal record is a disqualification for public service.

Honesty and truth to power is the best policy.
