Andrew Poolman – Both the men’s and women’s teams of Saints achieved convincing wins against rivals DTS on Friday night to cement their place as favourites in the Bank Windhoek outdoor field hockey league.

The Saints women’s team led by Jerrica Cormack came away 5-0 winners at the Windhoek High School court, after leading 2-0 at halftime.

Azaylee Philander scored both goals in the first half, before Sunelle Ludwig, Danja Meyer and Tara Myburgh added more to the goal difference.

In the men’s game, Isaac Fallis scored a first-half hattrick for Saints, while DTS team captain Jason Bolton pulled one back in the 18th minute. Saints’ final goal was added through a penalty by Nicolai Hilbert.

At Windhoek Affies court, the School of Excellence men’s team took a 3-0 win against NUST, thanks to two goals by Delron Handura and one by Sachio Jaanda. The university side replied with a goal by Baggio Karigub in the first half.

The School of Excellence women’s team could however not overcome the tough challenge of Windhoek Old Boys, who ran out 4-0 winners (halftime 3-0). Goals were scored by Kaela Schimming, team captain Phia Gerber, Wilri Venter and Nicola Fourie.
