SADC besluit vandag, môre oor militêre ingryping in Mosambiek

Terwyl kommer wêreldwyd oplaai oor die verslegtende veiligheidsituasie in Mosambiek, is alle oë vandag en môre op Maputo waar die Suider-Afrikaanse Ontwikkelingsgemeenskap (SADC) se buitengewone spitsberaad van die Dubbel Troika plaasvind om oor moontlik hulp aan Mosambiek te besluit.
Teen die naweek behoort daar meer duidelikheid te wees oor of die 16 SADC-lande militêr by die geweldgeteisterde Cabo Delgado-provinsie in die noorde van Mosambiek gaan ingryp.

SADC het Dinsdag in ’n verklaring gesê hy is baie besorg oor die situasie in Cabo Delgado, waar Moslem-militantes se skrikbewind al hoe wreedaardiger word.

Die militantes word gesteun deur die Islamitiese Staat (Isis), wat verantwoordelikheid aanvaar het vir die onlangse bloedige aanvalle in die hawedorp Palma.
Me. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, minister van buitelandse betrekkinge en samewerking, het vroeër vandag in ‘n verklaring gesê hoewel Namibië nie deel uitmaak van die Dubbel Troika nie (SADC-lande se deelname hieraan geskied op ‘n rotasiegrondslag), bly die regering bekommerd oor die situasie oor Mosambiek.
Volgens haar is geen Namibiërs in die aanvalle in Mosambiek dood of daardeur geraak nie.
