Sê hóé?
‘n Mens moet, tong in die kies, wonder of 2020 se viruswinde só erg waai dat dit al die pad vanaf Amerikaanse bodem die yl bevolkte Namibië en sy wye, oop vlaktes bereik het.
Volgens New Era het pres. Hage Geingob Maandag gesê protesoptogte is ‘n teken van hoop en “vertroue” in die regering. Hoe sê? Vandag sal seker wys of dit ‘n foutiewe aanhaling is.
Terselfdertyd het die agbare gesondheidsminister, dr. Kalumbi Shangula, die toerisme-, ander bedrywe en Jan en San Alleman gister versoek om kalm te bly terwyl daar getob word of nie-Namibiese besoekers oor land uit Suid-Afrika en uit ander lande kan kom kuier.
Mense is deur grensposte gelaat tot die afgelope naweek, toe chaos losgebars het omdat grense eintlik toe is. Sommige word blykbaar selfs nou verhoed om na Suid-Afrika te ry en verskillende beamptes op die grens sing glo almal verskillende deuntjies – afhangende van wie jy is.
Kalm bly, is moeiliker vir Namibiese besighede en Namibiërs wie se voortbestaan elke dag meer bedreig word. Meestal nié deur Covid-19 nie, maar ekonomiese oorsake, misdaad en ander faktore.
Namibië sukkel lankal met doeltreffende regering, goeie bestuur en openbare dienste en volgens alle indrukke het die pandemie nou die verskoning geword hoekom ons minder haas of erns as ooit hoef te toon om probleme op te los. Terwyl dit nou dringender as ooit is.
Toe inperkings opgehef is, is die regering geprys. Ongelukkig was al die voorbereidings wat daarmee gepaard moes gaan duidelik nie tydig getref nie.

When a huge minority have heartily embraced falsehoods and prejudices that erode the foundation of their own nation, that is not called a wrong turn or a blip on the screen.
It is called rot. The decay of the body politic.
These people are now lost to most of America’s core values: decency, honesty, inclusiveness, fairness. All gone.
And there is precious little chance that, even with a “president” sidelined with COVID and defeated in November, these minions will react like the winged monkeys of the Wicked Witch of the West. They will not suddenly turn to Biden in celebration and say the equivalent of “Dorothy, you killed her. The witch is dead!”
They are infinitely more likely to continue on their way, down the road to further isolationism, xenophobia, and bigotry.
Followers of the “president” choose not to see that he is doing something that Americans have, in fact, never accepted as part of their tradition: governing by dividing the nation and ratcheting up domestic tensions, promoting fear-mongering and bitterness among us.
This is the great loss America has blindly inflicted on itself. It’s up to the rest of us now, those who understand the gravity of the situation, to use our votes to try to restore what we’ve lost. If it isn’t too late.
