Rundu Trade Fair fundraiser a success
Close to N.dollars 500 000, in pledges, were raised at the Rundu Trade Fair fundraising gala dinner here on Friday.
Standard Bank gave the highest sponsorship of N.dollars 70 000, followed by First National Bank with N.dollars 40 000.
The fair will be held from 01 to 05 November 2016 under the theme, ''Embracing and Promoting our Cultural Diversity towards Social Economic Development''.
The patron of the Rundu Trade fair is Namibia''s founding president, Dr Sam Nujoma.
Speaking at the gala dinner, former Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration Rosalia Nghidinwa said Nujoma was approached by the Rundu Town Council to provide credibility to the trade fair and help elevate its wider significance.
“Dr Sam Nujoma has great love for the town of Rundu and the Kavango regions, and is delighted to continue supporting development activities in this part of the country, even while he is retired,” she said.
Nghidinwa explained that a trade fair is an exhibition organised to enable corporations, institutions and individuals involved in business to showcase and demonstrate their latest products, and meet with industry partners to examine recent trends and opportunities.
“However, in order to achieve that successfully, the town council, as organiser of such an event, needs to mobilise resources from partners and stakeholders through fundraising,” she said.
Standard Bank Rundu Regional Manager Yvonne Stefanus said her institution is pleased to be part of this economically-viable event.
“It goes without saying that trade fairs are catalysts for economic development, as they empower entrepreneurs to network, build connections and grow their businesses to greater heights,” she said.
According to her, the 2016 Rundu Trade Fair is an excellent opportunity to promote competitiveness and creativity within the trade and business sectors, and it also highlights opportunities for tourism, investment, business and cultural exchange.
The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Rundu Branch Representative, Tinus Wakudumo said the theme for this year''s event must help bring positive results and ensure that the people of the Kavango regions are able to showcase their products and promote local tourism .
“It is also important to know that respect for cultural diversity promotes vibrant and inclusive societies. Strengthening creative industries and protecting natural and cultural heritage have proven to be effective instruments of economic development,” Wakudumo said. Nampa
