Pupkewitz Toyota delivers “future-in-a-bag”

Yochanaan Coetzee - When Pupkewitz Toyota were looking into new ways in which to plough back into the local community, they immediately knew education would be their focus.“As responsible corporate citizens, the Pupkewitz Group and Pupkewitz Toyota in particular, believe growth and development of our country should be foremost on our list of priorities,” said Anton Westraadt, dealer-principle of Pupkewitz Toyota. “We feel very strongly that education can transform lives and our economy as a whole. With this in mind, we decided to direct our efforts at assisting children to reach their full potential. That is when the future-in-a-bag concept was born,” he added.The “Future in a bag” project sees one school bag filled with stationery donated to a child in need for every car sold at Pupkewitz Toyota.Recently, the Pupkewitz Toyota team, Welwitschias coach Lyn Jones, his wife and Miss Namibia 2017, Suné January, paid a visit to Olof Palme Primary School in Greenwell Matongo, Katutura, to hand over in excess of a thousand of these bags.“This donation brings the total to over 3 700 school bags handed over so far and with the warm reception we receive when the children open their bags for the first time, we really look forward to continuing with the project,” said Marijke Viljoen, Marketing & Customer Experience Manager at Pupkewitz Toyota.After some lively cutural dance performances, Jones and January each gave the learners a motivational speech, encouraging them to not let their circumstances distract them from the achievement of their dreams.“By keeping your body and mind fit and growing through exercise and education, you can be prepared for any challenge life throws at you. If you stay determined, nothing can stand between you and what you want to achieve,” Jones said.January went on to relate to them how, when growing up, she would never have dreamt of becoming Miss Namibia one day. “I was quite a tomboy growing up. I was always playing outside, running around, picking up scrapes and falling on my face, so becoming Miss Namibia wasn’t something I thought I was capable of. No matter what your challenges are, make the best of every opportunity and through hard work, you can become more than you ever dreamt you could be.”Principle of Olof Palme Primary School, Julia Hangula, thanked Pupkewitz Toyota for their support and called on the learners to take good care of their bags and to follow the examples set by the speakers.“To be associated with Pupkewitz Toyota, the Welwitschias and Miss Namibia, is very significant for us and not only have you assisted our learners with material goods, but by taking the time to come and speak to the children, you have helped motivate them and we are very grateful that we could be part of this wonderfully generous campaign,” she said.
