Prosperity launches CPD programme

IN the interest of promoting continuous education development and information sharing the Prosperity Group launched the first of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) point’s programmes for the Namibian healthcare Professionals by hosting a well attended discussion group for the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia (PSN) in Windhoek recently.

“This initiative provides opportunities for practitioners to stay informed and to maintain a core level of competence in their respective fields,” according to Beverley Saenen, Group Marketing Manager: Prosperity Group.

The Health Profession Council of Namibia is in the process of implementing the requirement that Healthcare Professionals need to obtain a minimum of 30 CPD points over a 12 month period which are in turn valid for 24 months.

This is to ensure that our healthcare professionals in Namibia maintain current up to date trends in their chosen fields of expertise. Explaining the rationale behind this new initiative of Prosperity Group, Saenen said that the qualification and certification as a professional health care service practitioner does not guarantee that an individual’s proficiency will be maintained for the rest of his/her professional life.

“There are two primary reasons for this,” she said. Firstly: The acquisition of new knowledge and skills for any health-related field is advancing constantly and this new knowledge is not easily communicated to practitioners. Secondly: The information acquired by health professionals as students becomes obsolete at some point in future. “Continuing Professional Development (CPD) therefore provides the vehicle for practitioners to acquire new knowledge and skills as well as maintain a core level of competence in their field,” Saenen said.

In step with its stated value proposition “WE CARE” the Prosperity Group aims to ensure that all networking sessions hosted will generate a platform for healthcare professionals to earn their CPD points. PSN identified three levels of learning activities: those with nonmeasurable outcomes, those with measurable outcomes and those associated with formally structured learning programs.

A Practitioner may obtain all of the CPDs in one level or the number of CPDs across different levels depending on personal circumstances and individual learning needs. Members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia (PSN) in Windhoek received their first round of CPD points for 2008 by attending a seminar presented by Dr Sophia van Rooyen on “Anxiety Disorders: a Clinical Perspective” and detailed the role pharmacists can play in treating these distressing conditions.

Kobus Struwig, Managing Director of the Prosperity Group highlighted the benefits of the new EXECUMED product aimed at the young executive that is the latest exclusive life health cover product under the Prosperity Life portfolio. EXECUMED is an exciting first for Namibia, offering day–to-day benefit cover of N$40 000 per family and in-hospital benefits up to N$1 million per beneficiary per annum.
