Prisa's new committee
THE Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa in Namibia (Prisa) kickstarted the year with an annual general meeting, creating a stimulus among members and the aspiring students with guest speakers such as Mixuel de Kock, Prisa president, Southern Africa, whose main message was volunteerism, and the vice-president for Southern Africa, Victor Sibeko, who did an informative presentation rekindling the passion and importance of public relations.
The annual general meeting allows practitioners and members to continually reassess and develop their skills in public relations through Prisa. Prisa’s accreditation is globally recognised, meaning that members who are practitioners practicing public relations in a standard ethical manner are internationally recognised.
The new Namibian Prisa committee was elected for 2008 with a new addition to the committee of two student representatives. Riaan van Rooyen, one of seven accredited public relations practitioners in Namibia, took over the position as chairman from Maria Dax. With the 25 percent growth in membership, the future and development of Prisa Namibia looks very bright, the institute said.
