Papama vows to soldier on

Jesse Jackson Kauraisa Brave Warriors midfielder Marcel Papama has vowed to continue doing his best for the nation.The footballer who was part of the Namibian team that bowed out of the Cosafa Cup said he enjoyed representing his country despite a disappointing exit from the competition.He played an influential role in the country’s first two matches, which saw Namibia beating Senegal 2-1 and a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe. “Yes, it was very disappointing to bow out of the tournament in that fashion, even when we had a good chance of making it to the semi-final.“It is beyond us now and all I can do is to focus on getting better for the national team and my club.“I will always wear the national team jersey with honour and will leave everything out there when I go on that field,” Papama said. No regretsThe midfielder added that he does not regret honouring the Brave Warriors call-up and playing in another Cosafa tournament.Namibia were a point away from securing a place in the semi-final but a 1-0 defeat to Mozambique signalled the end of the road as Senegal and the Mambas progressed.The country’s dismissal sparked calls for a new, young player to take over.At 25, Papama, however, still feels that he has plenty to offer the nation before he can think of calling it quits.“It is obvious that one will really not be happy about what happened in South Africa but I do not regret it as it will keep me behind.“As a player, I have to remain focused on my goals and doing the best I can for my nation,” he said.Interest Papama revealed that he received a few calls from agents in South Africa after the competition.“Well, I did get a few calls from interested agents, but at the moment, I am not sure if they will materialise into something serious,” he said.Namibia will play in the World Cup qualifiers in September and the player hopes he will get a call-up to represent his country yet again in important clashes.
