PanMeD donates nursing attire to first-year students

In 2019, the School of Nursing at the University of Namibia introduced a new uniform for nursing students to make it easier to identify them in clinic and hospital settings. Since then, students have been buying their attire from various suppliers.One of these suppliers is PanMed Investment, owned by Dr Martha Shiyanga, a Unam alumnus. PanMed Investment recently donated uniforms to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.“What moved us to start this initiative, was our encounter with first-year students who visited our store in search of the Unam nursing attire long after a practical had commenced,” Dr Shiyanga said.“This reminded me of the many challenges students face at university and because of this reoccurring instance, we decided to make this initiative part of our corporate social responsibility moving forward.”Receiving the donation on behalf of the acting dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Louise Pretorius, was Galukeni Kadhila, who expressed his sincere gratitude to the PanMeD team.“The uniforms will be given to first-year nursing students, chosen from four of the university’s campuses that offer the Bachelor of Nursing Science programme.”Nursing is offered at the Windhoek, Oshakati, Rundu and Southern campuses.PanMed Investment was established in 2016. Besides manufacturing and supplying uniforms for medical personnel, it also supplies medical consumables, surgical and laboratory tools.
