Otjozondjupa to receive winter donations
OTJIWARONGO - Vulnerable community members in the Otjozondjupa Region will later this month begin receiving donations of blankets, footwear and clothes from the Otjozondjupa Regional Governor, Otto Ipinge.
Ipinge on 15 March began soliciting new and second hand blankets, clothes and shoes for both sexes under his initiative, the Otjozondjupa Governor's Winter Drive Campaign.
Ipinge during the initiative's launch at the Otjiwarongo Municipality chambers said he intends keeping all vulnerable community members in the region warm during this year's winter.
Upon hearing this, the Okahandja Municipality and individual Samaritans started donating various items and making pledges towards the initiative.
Ipinge plans to distribute the donated goods through the councillors of the region's constituencies: Okahandja, Okakarara, Otjiwarongo, Otavi, Grootfontein and Tsumkwe.
On Tuesday, B2Gold Namibia donated 122 new blankets.
Handing over the blankets to the governor's office, B2Gold Mine manager for corporate social responsibility, Ignasius /Awaseb, said nearly N$20 000 was spent on the blankets' purchase.
“It is our pleasure at B2Gold Mine to keep our community members warm during this winter,” he said.
Personal Assistant (PA) to the governor, Sonia Iyambo, received the new blankets.
“We thank you for the donation and we will make sure they are distributed to the needy people in our constituencies,” she said.
Iyambo said the distribution of these goods will start towards end of June. -Nampa
