Otjozondjupa celebrates heritage week
OTJIWARONGO - Hundreds of Otjozondjupa residents have joined the rest of the country in celebrating the annual National Heritage Week by visiting sites of historical and geographical significance in the region.
The Otjozondjupa events are organised by the Directorate of National Heritage and Cultural Programmes based in Otjiwarongo.
Culture Officer in the directorate, Hertha Bukassa, in an interview with Nampa on Monday said their intention is to involve as many young people as possible with a plan to instil pride of Namibia's diverse cultures.
She said the event, which started Monday, will end on Friday with a big gathering in town where a festival with cultural performances and traditional cuisine will be held.
“Each day as from Monday we will have an activity such as visiting and touring the Hoba meteorite and Waterberg Plateau Park,” she said.
Teachers and 60 primary school learners from Rogate, Tsaraxa-Aibes and Karundu were on Monday transported by the directorate to the Hoba Meteorite in the Grootfontein district.
She said Tuesday night a screening of the movie 'Ghostland: The view of the Ju'Hoansi' was held at the Swanevelder Community Hall.
Bukassa encouraged young Namibians to dress in traditional and cultural attire for the whole week before calling on all Namibians to be proud and cherish the country's diverse culture, traditional and historical sites where they live.
The main event on Friday is expected to be attended by the Otjozondjupa Regional Education Director, Simon Tsuseb and Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor, Julius Neumbo in the town's central business district.
