Oranjemund tables N$193 million budget

The Oranjemund Town Council recently tabled a provisional budget of nearly N$ 193 million for the 2021/22 financial year.In a media statement on Friday, the town council said the budget of N$193 million is a proposed budget and awaits approval from the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development.It said of the total budget, over N$91 million is reserved for the town council’s operating budget, N$99 million is to be used on the council’s capital budget and a further N$1.6 million is reserved for leave provisions and bad debts.The statement added that the council’s total provisional operational expenditure budget for the 2021/22 financial year is N$92 million with N$60 million allocated for general expenses.The general expenses include a service contract for the dumpsite management at a cost of N$800 000, wet services costing N$3 million, bulk purchase of electricity at N$33 million, and abstraction and distribution of water at the cost of over N$2 million.“The 2021/22 capital budget includes numerous and significant ongoing initiatives that prepare for the long-term viability and sustainability of Oranjemund and numerous projects are planned with an overall project cost estimate of N$99 million including various carryover projects from 2019/20 and for the new capital projects planned for 2021/22,” said the statement.Chairperson of the management committee, Guamé Stephanus said council is fully aware and understands the current unfavourable prevailing economic circumstances in the town and after careful consideration sought not to increase water-related tariffs for the 2021/22 financial year.“The management committee together with its council will be closely monitoring the 2021/22 financial transactions to ensure that the town council is sustaining the desired levels of services, while moving forward with current developments to ensure growth and prosperity during 2021/22,” Stephanus said. - Nampa
