Ongos Valley, Telecom Namibia sign MoU
With this partnership, Telecom Namibia will ensure that Ongos Valley will be a digital, liveable, inclusive and sustainable smart city.

Ongos Valley Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Telecom Namibia (TN) last week to commemorate their journey towards developing a smart city.
In a media statement, Ongos Valley notes that the objective of the MoU is to set out areas of mutual cooperation with the aim of promoting and developing areas relating to telecommunications and information technology at Ongos Valley.
With this partnership, Telecom Namibia will ensure that Ongos Valley will be a digital, liveable, inclusive and sustainable smart city.
The realisation of this smart partnership will undoubtably serve to promote Ongos Valley as a leading smart city with a robust telecommunications backbone and execute the dream of being the epitome of urban excellence in Africa.
“Ongos Valley is immensely pleased about this partnership with Telecom Namibia and looks forward to favourable results that will benefit not only Ongos Valley residences but the whole city at large,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Telecom Namibia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Stanely Shanapinda in his speech pointed that TN will ensure that all telecommunications and ICT needs of Ongos Valley are catered to, be it fixed line services, mobile connectivity, internet, wireless, data management, fibre installation, surveillance, connecting buyers to market and basically fulfilling the ICT needs of the modern population, he said.
Demand
The essence of any smart city is reliable connectivity. That means a robust telecommunication backbone. The ICT industry, due to the pandemic, has shifted into high gear to accommodate the sudden demand for remote working and learning. “To keep up with the demand, we as Telecom Namibia, under our strategic drive called Operation Autumn Cleaning or OAC 2.0, continues to review our product and service offerings to ensure we remain relevant to the market and that we are able to meet our customers’ demands. Shanapinda adds that the fourth (4th) Industrial revolution is upon us, with the implementation of 5G drawing closer and closer. One of the important areas in which 5G technologies will play a crucial role is the internet of things (IoT), which will boost the emergence of smart cities, asset tracking, smart utilities, and security infrastructure. Telecom Namibia will ensure that Ongos Valley’s telecommunication and ICT needs, and infrastructure are aligned with and can be benchmarked with world class best practises and standards. And when it’s time to move over to 5G, Telecom Namibia will ensure that it’s done in an agile and swift manner to ensure the residence of Ongos Valley are empowered with smart mobility, remote work, online education, and telehealth, he said.
