Pull quote: “After several years of working for Namfisa, I still consider it as an employer of choice because I have, without a doubt, realized the above goals and continue to do so,” -Charlotte Kapose.
Charlotte Kapose completed her Bachelor of Commerce Degree (in financial accounting and auditing) at Rhodes University. “I subsequently pursued postgraduate studies and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Finance (PGDip DevFin) as well as a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance (MPhil DevFin), both from Stellenbosch University,” she says.
Professional Background
After she graduated, she began her career as an audit trainee at PwC in 2010 and successfully completed her articles while working as a senior auditor in 2013. Her client portfolio comprised of financial services institutions across the several sub-sectors (banking, capital markets, insurance and pensions funds), for the most part. “Thereafter, I moved into IT audit at the end of 2013, in a Senior SPA (Systems, Process Assurance) Consultant role at PwC.”
Kapose says when she left the audit environment in 2014, she decided to continue practising in the financial services sector where she believed her technical skills and professional experience was best placed and where she saw her vision for her career materialising.
“I briefly undertook the role of fund accountant (Alternative Investments) at Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia before joining Namfisa in 2015 as a senior financial analyst in the Pension Funds and Friendly Societies Division,” she says.
Being welcomed at Namfisa
During her tenure at Namfisa, she also served in several other roles including acting manager: pension funds and friendly societies as well as a member of the Affirmative Action Committee, on which she continues to serve her three-year term.
Her role as a senior financial analyst at Namfisa recently came to end in May 2021 after she was appointed as the manager: conduct and compliance within the Market Conduct Division. “In this role, I will be responsible for the supervision of the conduct and effective functioning of regulated entities in order to secure an appropriate degree of protection for the consumers of financial services, reduce financial crime and ensure public confidence and trust in the non-bank financial sector,” Kapose adds.
Her motivation to work for the regulator was based on several factors which she considered to be key for her professional and personal growth and success. These included:
· Her passion for development and consequent fervent interest to influence financial sector policies which have great impact on sustainable economic development;
· Access to a potential network of qualified and motivated team of professionals whose pursuit is to serve and grow Namibia’s financial sector.
“After several years of working for Namfisa, I still consider it as an employer of choice because I have, without a doubt, realised the above goals and continue to do so,” she says.
“Namfisa is also an institution which focuses on human capital development as a key strategic objective in achieving its mandate. I have therefore been quite privileged to have been afforded great, growth opportunities to enhance her technical and professional skillset.
“So, to me, it goes without saying that Namfisa is still the best company to work, she adds.
In her free time, Kapose enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also spends a great deal of time in solitude because it is essential and rewarding for me. “During those times, I listen to YouTube videos mostly on self-development (in all areas really), I also read a great deal on human behaviour and psychology (I find this stuff weirdly interesting) and I clean, a lot! I also watch ALL of Shonda Rhimes’s series and ‘Binnelanders’,” she says.
Kapose thanks God and Namfisa for this opportunity. “As I step into my new role, my hope is to make a positive impact. I’m excited to be joining yet another winning team and look forward to learning from everyone in their respective roles as we implement the market conduct supervision framework within Namibia’s non-bank sector,” she concludes.
